Hitachi Energy’s partnership with China dates back to more than 100 years ago. The company set up its first office in Beijing in 1979. After over 40 years of development, Hitachi Energy is deeply rooted in China with a full range of business activities, including R&D, consulting, sales, engineering, manufacturing, and services. It has 15 local companies and 27 branches across the country.
Hitachi Energy has been actively involved in multiple milestone projects in China with its leading technologies and solutions, including Xiangjiaba-Shanghai, the first ±800 kV ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) link of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC); Changji-Guquan, the world’s first ±1,100 kV UHVDC transmission link with new records on voltage level, transmission capacity and distance; Sutong tunnel, the world’s first UHV GIL to transmit power under the Yangtze River; the world’s first VSC-HVDC grid in Zhangbei, and Gansu-Zhejiang, the world’s first ±800 kV flexible UHVDC project. The company has also achieved significant progress in sustainable solutions, including supporting offshore energy development through the applications of 66 kV HiDry and natural ester transformers, launching the world’s first 765 kV natural ester transformer, and commissioning China's first 420 kV SF₆-free dead tank circuit breaker and the world's first 550 kV SF₆-free GIS in collaboration with SGCC.
Hitachi Energy’s advanced digital solutions enable customers to overcome complexities brought by the energy system, to enhance grid capacity, and to optimize energy efficiency management. Its new Asset Performance Management solution will enable dynamic reliability management of all 110 kV and above transformers and circuit breakers of Inner Mongolia Power Group, supporting grid digitalization. Additionally, the company has also cooperated with grid operators, power generation companies, and energy enterprises to develop virtual power plants (VPP). In 2022, the company provided VPP operation system to Huaneng (Zhejiang) , which marks the first one in China that enables regular interactions with power grids and provides frequency regulation ancillary services.
Hitachi Energy fully supports the Belt and Road Initiative and joins hands with Chinese enterprises to go global. So far, the company has worked together with over 400 Chinese companies on some 1,000 projects in more than 100 countries and regions.
Hitachi Energy leads the ranking with its local companies on the list of the 25th “China Top 100 Electrical Companies”. In addition, it was also honored “China Electrical Companies’ Top 10 Leading Enterprises”, “China Electrical Companies’ Top 10 Digital Innovation Solutions”, “China Electrical Companies’ Top 10 Green and Low-carbon Solutions”, and “China Electrical Companies’ Special Contribution Award”, demonstrating its technological leadership and industry influence in energy and power.
The company was also recognized at the Sino-Swiss Business Awards, earning second place in the “Innovation Pioneer Award”, third in the “Talent Development Award”, and a special “Legacy Award” for its longstanding contributions to Sino-Swiss business relations. Furthermore, Hitachi Energy was named Forbes China’s “2025 Best ESG Practice Employer” for excellence in sustainability and talent management.
