Hitachi Energy is a global technology leader that is advancing a sustainable energy future for all. We are advancing the world’s energy system to be more sustainable, flexible and secure and we collaborate with customers and partners to enable a sustainable energy future – for today’s generations and those to come. Hitachi Energy has a proven track record and unparalleled installed base in more than 140 countries, serving customers in utility, industry, transportation, data centers and infrastructure sectors. With innovative technologies and services including the integration of more than 150 gigawatts of HVDC links into the power system, we help make the energy value chain more efficient, making electricity more accessible to all. Together with stakeholders across sectors and geographies, we enable the digital transformation required to accelerate the energy transition towards a carbon-neutral future. Headquartered in Switzerland, we employ around 45,000 people in 60 countries and generate business volumes of around $13 billion USD.

Hitachi Energy’s partnership with China dated back to more than 100 years ago. The company set up its first office in Beijing in 1979. After over 40 years of development, Hitachi Energy has deeply rooted in China with a full range of business activities, including R&D, consulting, sales, engineering, manufacturing, and services. It has 17 local companies and 27 branches across the country.

Hitachi Energy has actively involved in multiple milestone projects in China with its leading technologies and solutions, including Xiangjiaba-Shanghai, the first ±800 kV ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) link of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC); Changji-Guquan, the world’s first ±1,100 kV UHVDC transmission link with new records on voltage level, transmission capacity and distance; Sutong tunnel, the world’s first UHV GIL to transmit power under the Yangtze River; the world’s first VSC-HVDC grid in Zhangbei, and Baihetan-Jiangsu, the world’s first series hybrid UHVDC project. The company has also achieved significant progress in sustainable solutions, participating in China’s first “zero-carbon” substation built by SGCC, the nation’s first deep-sea floating wind platform in Hainan Province and collaborating with SGCC to deploy the country’s first 420 kV SF6-free Dead Tank Breaker and world’s first 550 kV SF6-free Gas-Insulated Switchgear.

Hitachi Energy’s advanced digital solutions enable customers to overcome complexities brought by the energy system, to enhance grid capacity, and to optimize energy efficiency management. Its leading Lumada Asset Performance Management (APM) has served multiple grid and industrial customers in China. Additionally, the company has also cooperated with grid operators, power generation companies, and energy enterprises to develop virtual power plant (VPP). In 2022, the company provided VPP operation system to Huaneng (Zhejiang) , which marks the first one in China that enables regular interactions with power grids and provides frequency regulation ancillary services.

Hitachi Energy fully supports the Belt and Road Initiative and joins hands with Chinese enterprises to go out. By far, the company has worked together with over 400 Chinese companies on some 1,000 projects in more than 100 countries and regions.

Hitachi Energy leads the ranking with its local companies on the list of the 2024 “China Top 100 Electrical Companies”. In addition, it has also received the awards of “China Electrical Companies’ Top 10 Low-Carbon Solutions”, “China Electrical Companies’ Top 10 Digital Innovation Solutions”, “China Electrical Companies' Top 10 Innovative Enterprises”, and “China Electrical Companies’ Special Contribution Award”, demonstrating the company’s outstanding technology innovation and its leading position in the energy and power sector.

During the 2023 Sino-Swiss Business Awards, Hitachi Energy was honored with the “Innovation Pioneer Award” for its pioneering EconiQ™ eco-efficient portfolio and was nominated for the “Talent Development and Diversity Award” in recognition of its outstanding talent strategy. Furthermore, Hitachi Energy was named “2022 Best Employer”, and won the “2022 Most Sustainable Employer” award from Forbes China in 2022.
