Inverness, July 2, 2025 Hitachi, Ltd.
Hitachi Energy is celebrating the opening of a new project office in Inverness as part of its ongoing commitment to its people and facilities. The office will support the business in delivering the critical infrastructure needed to enable the country to meet its clean energy targets.
The Inverness office sets a precedent for plans to further expand by investing in Scotland, where many of the businesses’ UK HVDC projects are delivered. Hitachi Energy chose the location of the North of Scotland to be geographically close to its strategic delivery partner, SSEN Transmission.
Currently, projects that the companies have collaborated on include the Caithness to Moray subsea cable link, the groundbreaking Shetland HVDC link, connecting Shetland to the mainland grid for the first time, and work between the companies is continuing on the Eastern Green Link 2 – the single biggest electricity transmission project in the UK.
Laura Fleming, Country Managing Director for Hitachi Energy UK & Ireland has said ‘In opening a local project office, we are marking a commitment to the community and our stakeholders in Scotland. The new office will enable us to develop our long-term social value locally, including supporting the growth of the transmission supply chain, but also in offering local skilled jobs to the area and in creating opportunities to work across our Scottish/UK projects.
It will also enable us to highlight our work amongst local educational establishments, prioritising working closely with local schools, colleges and universities, and developing Apprenticeships and Graduate schemes, along with STEM initiatives.
The new office will aim to engage and enthuse young people about the opportunities in the renewable energy sector, positioning the North of Scotland as a great place for young people to live and build progressive careers.
It will also help us to pioneer technologies that will enable the UK’s energy system to become more sustainable, secure, resilient, and affordable.
The news follows recent announcements of an £18million investment in a large footprint in Staffordshire that’s set to house up to 500 people, that will be opened in 2026.
