Hitachi Energy and Edinburgh Science deliver Inverness school workshops about our climate
- Hitachi Energy has teamed up with Edinburgh Science to deliver their Generation Science programme, one of the UK’s leading science education outreach programmes.
- The partners ran a workshop at primary schools in Inverness on the topic of different climates around the world and the impact of climate change.
- Attended by primary school pupils and their teachers, the workshops are part of a programme to inspire the next generation of STEM professionals.
Hitachi Energy has sponsored a number of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workshops in Inverness, Scotland. Partnering with Generation Science, the performances take place in Scotland, where the touring science communicators will visit 10 primary schools and deliver interactive and inspiring workshops.
The partnership showcases Hitachi Energy’s continued commitment to the importance of science and technology in the global fight against climate change by sponsoring STEM education. The Generation Science workshops are part of Hitachi Energy’s two year agreement with Edinburgh Science to deliver activities bringing to life STEM subjects in schools, showing that science is all around us.
At the schools, the workshop entitled The Green Machine will explore energy transfer and discover solutions for future renewable electricity sources. In another workshop, Electric Explorers, pupils explore the workings of circuits and components by using movement to generate green electricity and find out how it is stored.
Hitachi Energy’s dedication to energy education both inside and outside the classroom, is further exemplified by ‘The Journey of Electricity’ animation series. The recent educational initiative, which has reached over half a billion people worldwide, aimed to ignite curiosity in young minds by sharing captivating facts about the world of energy.
The future of our world will mean children knowing early on how critical the development of science and technology is, and we are passionate that they understand how a career in science and technology will help to fight the effects of climate change and make the world a better place. We believe that it's important to provide opportunities for communities to understand how we can all play a role in meeting a zero-carbon future is crucial.
We’re delighted to have Hitachi Energy on board as a supporter for this year’s Generation Science tour. Our mission for Generation Science is to provide high-quality science activities to primary school pupils across Scotland, providing the same experience no matter where they live. Hitachi Energy shares our drive to inspire the next generation of scientists and champion the importance of renewable energy, and thanks to their generous support we’re able to bring Electric Explorers to Shetland and The Green Machine to Inverness and Beauly.

About Edinburgh Science
Edinburgh Science, founded in 1989, is an educational charity that aims to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to discover the world around them. The organisation is best known for organising Edinburgh’s annual Science Festival: the world’s first festival of science and technology and still one of Europe’s largest.
The two-week Festival provides wide and diverse audiences with amazing science-themed experiences through a diverse programme of innovative events for adults and families. Alongside the annual Festival in Edinburgh, the organisation has a strong focus on education, running a touring programme, Generation Science, that brings science to life for primary schools around Scotland throughout the year, and running an annual Careers Hive event which promotes STEM careers to young people.
