Hitachi Energy and SMA have hit a major milestone – 3,000 transformer units produced and delivered. But this achievement isn’t just about numbers; it’s a testament to a partnership built on trust, innovation, and a shared vision for the future of energy.

A strategic collaboration built on expertise

The partnership between Hitachi Energy and SMA (Solar Technology AG) has evolved over the years, founded on technical expertise, a commitment to quality, and a mutual goal of delivering high-performance energy solutions. As a leading global specialist in photovoltaic system technology, SMA is setting the standards today for the decentralized, digital and renewable energy supply of tomorrow. While the relationship between the two companies began over a decade ago, the collaboration gained momentum in 2018 when SMA sought a partner to help providing top-notch transformer solutions across its global markets. Hitachi Energy emerged as the ideal choice, offering deep industry expertise and a strong track record in transformer technology.

As a pioneer in the development of transformers for the solar segment, Hitachi Energy has played a crucial role in enabling SMA’s large-scale projects. Designed specifically for solar inverter applications, these transformers efficiently convert and integrate renewable energy into the grid. With a team of highly skilled engineers and developers at the forefront of technology, Hitachi Energy ensures its products and solutions are both reliable and advanced. This commitment to innovation has strengthened the partnership with SMA over the years, helping drive the global transition to clean energy.

By 2019, the companies celebrated the successful testing of their first prototype, which laid the foundation for the first major order of transformers. Over the years, the partnership expanded, and in 2024, the production milestone of 3,000 units was reached.

This collaboration began five years ago, and over the years, we’ve strengthened it further. This milestone is a reflection of our continued dedication, problem-solving, and innovation, ensuring SMA’s energy systems are both efficient and reliable.

Nowadays, transformers supply is considered a critical asset for the high-voltage grid connection and here it is where Hitachi Energy can contribute by providing reliability, availability and maintenance in our products and services for cost optimization and increased safety during lifetime.

Having the broadest portfolio of solutions for utility-scale projects and the world’s largest installed base in power and distribution transformers, Hitachi Energy is the trusted partner for solar and hybrid power.

Delivering excellence amid industry challenges

Achieving the 3,000-unit supply milestone is not merely a measure of production volume; it represents the successful integration of advanced engineering, manufacturing precision, and supply chain resilience. Despite fluctuations in market conditions and global supply chain disruptions, Hitachi Energy and SMA have remained steadfast in their commitment to quality and timely delivery. Their ability to navigate these challenges underscores the value of strategic, long-term partnerships in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

This achievement reflects years of collaboration, technical excellence, and a shared commitment to delivering high-performance energy solutions. We’re proud to celebrate this moment with SMA and look forward to the future of our partnership.

Looking ahead: 5,000 and beyond

With SMA’s ambitious expansion, the demand for high-performance transformer solutions is set to rise. Hitachi Energy is ready to power this growth, ensuring SMA has the infrastructure it needs to scale efficiently.

As the companies look to the future, the next milestone, 5,000 transformer units, is already on the horizon. Pascal Dinnies, Head of Supply Chain Management Large Scale Projects at SMA, shared his excitement: “We are now looking forward to celebrating our next milestones together. I’m excited to see this partnership continue to grow and to see what comes next when we reach 10,000.”

This impressive milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and commitment of the Dudullu transformers factory team in Türkiye and the SMA team.

As both companies continue to grow and innovate, this collaboration will play a crucial role in shaping a more sustainable energy future for all.
