Hitachi Energy enhance ties with the mining industry

The company's General Manager in Chile, Mauricio Mazuela, highlighted the networking opportunity and reaffirmed Hitachi Energy's commitment to developing a more robust and sustainable electrical infrastructure to ensure production certainty.

"Leading from the front on electric infrastructure" was the the panel featuring by Mauricio Mazuela, General Manager of Hitachi Energy Chile, during a new edition of The Electric Mine 2025 international conference, held from May 13 to 15 at the Parque Conference Centre.

The executive, in addition to mentioning the importance of the conference as a key global platform for connecting companies involved in the net-zero transition, emphasized the strategic aspects of the event. "The Electric Mine offers many opportunities to generate synergies and collaboration. The largest companies are here, and all share a commitment to the quality that Hitachi Energy offers; so it's a perfect mix", he stated.

Mazuela also emphasized in the company's role in Chile, with "one of the installed bases with the largest presence in national electrification", adding Hitachi Energy's work to developing a more robust electrical infrastructure; "proof of this is the inauguration of our remote monitoring system, in line with the commitment to take care of our installed base, and even that of other manufacturers".

In this regard, Jorge Piñeros, Transformer Application Engineering Manager HUB SAM at Hitachi Energy, added that the relationship between parties is further strengthened when objectives align. "Hitachi Energy has a challenge and a responsibility towards the mining segment, in terms of being able to contribute through technology products aligned with the sustainability goals of companies", he said.

Piñeros also noted that this edition of The Electric Mine showcased the company's strong commitment to the digitalization of the mining industry, "which allows for optimizing operations, improving equipment maintenance conditions and health status, and achieving a more reliable production line".

Sustainability and trust

During the conference, Ricardo Nakamura, Electromobility Tracking Manager at Hitachi Energy, presented some of the company’s solutions that, among others, aim to generate greater certainty in the industry. "Energy supply in mining is a very important issue, and Hitachi Energy's high-voltage equipment and transformers achieve the necessary concept of sustainability and reliability", he remarked.

In his closing day talk, Nicolás Espinoza, Power Quality Segment Manager at Hitachi Energy, in particular, presented the Statcom, a static reactive power compensator (D-STATCOM), used to improve power quality in electrical power distribution systems. He also explained that "Statcom helps regulate voltage, compensate reactive power, and improve the power factor, which is especially important in grids with non-linear or variable loads"-

The executive finally featured the PCS 6000 STATCOM, an efficient power system package specifically designed to connect to high-demand grids; and the SVC Light, particularly useful, for example, for supporting weak grids and improving the performance of large wind farms with variable grid conditions and networks with a large percentage of air conditioning load in hot and humid climates.

In the same closing talk, alongside Espinoza, Jorge Cuturrufo, Energy Superintendent - T&D, VP Projects, from Antofagasta Minerals, featured on how solutions like those offered by Hitachi Energy have made a difference in the industry.
