Director, Research & Technology Development, New York Power Authority (NYPA)

 

Atena has 15+ years of experience in Technology and Innovation, including a degree in electrical engineering from the Amirkabir University of Technology - Tehran Polytechnic and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Iowa State University. She has hands-on experience in driving, designing, and implementing technology solutions leveraging AI, digitalization, advanced analytics, and cloud computing — collaborating with industry experts, leading engineering/developer teams, and managing cross-functional projects and teams.

 

She has been with the New York Power Authority since November 2015, starting as an engineer and has had increasing roles of responsibility within the Research and Technology Development team where she resides today as Director of R&D. Atena has helped to develop innovative techniques and solutions aligned with strategic business objectives for enhancing NYPA and the New York State power grid. She has managed multiple projects related to advanced analytics for grid monitoring/alarming and asset health monitoring/management, cloud computing and analytics technologies, and machine learning and AI for situational awareness within the power grid.

Dr. Bo Yang

Vice President, Hitachi America, Ltd.

 

Dr. Bo Yang is the Vice President of Energy Solution Lab at Hitachi America LTD. She is also a Fellow of IET and Senior Member of IEEE. Dr. Yang is a renowned expert on Smart Grid, Digital Energy Technologies, and AI for power grid operation and control. Her team has successfully demonstrated the latest AI and digital energy solutions on numerous DOE- and utility-sponsored innovation demonstration projects.

Carlos focuses on providing customers with the consultative & domain expertise to access the full breadth of Hitachi’s digital services & products for the energy domain. Success means enabling electric utility customers to realize their digital projects and transformation initiatives. His cross-disciplinary expertise across software engineering, management consulting, and strategic design makes him uniquely adept at driving digital solution development and delivery. His current areas of focus include: Utility Analytics (AI/ML), Organizational Change for Digital Transformation, Advanced Simulation and Modelling of Grid Operations, Application of Real-Time and Predictive Analytics for grid operations & maintenance.
