Global BU Operations HSE Manager, Grid Automation

The opportunity

We are looking for a Global BU Operations HSE Manager to support and strengthen Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) performance across Business Unit Grid Automation.

The role focuses on operational environments (projects, service, and manufacturing), ensuring effective implementation of HSE standards, programs, and risk management practices. It provides guidance, coaching, and constructive challenge to operational teams, acting as part of the Second Line of Defence.

The Global BU Operations HSE Manager also contributes to the development and continuous improvement of HSE programs and represents the Business Unit within the HSE Operating System, ensuring alignment between global frameworks and operational execution.

How you'll make an impact

  • Support the implementation of the HSE strategy within BU operations.

  • Act as a visible HSE leader through regular site visits and direct engagement with operational teams.

  • Promote a strong safety culture by fostering accountability, ownership, and risk awareness at all levels of the organization.

  • Assess HSE performance across projects, service operations, and manufacturing sites through field visits and operational reviews.

  • Support and challenge operational teams in identifying risks, implementing effective controls, and ensuring safe execution of work.

  • Monitor compliance with Hitachi Energy HSE standards,  3 lines of defence, Life-Saving Rules, and operational risk management requirements.

  • Analyze HSE performance data to identify trends, priorities, and opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Leverage digital tools and dashboards to support operational performance monitoring and informed decision-making.

  • Facilitate the sharing of lessons learned and best practices across countries and Hubs.

  • Support in the incident investigation and the deployment of incident learnings and organizational improvement initiatives.

  • Provide independent oversight and constructive challenge as part of the Second Line of Defense model.

  • Represent the Business Unit in HSE Operating System programs, governance activities, and improvement initiatives.

  • Contribute to the development and deployment of HSE programs focused on high-risk activities and operational performance.

  • Support Hubs and countries in strengthening HSE competencies and capabilities.

Your background

  • Degree or professional qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Recognized HSE qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.

  • 8-10 years of experience in HSE roles within operational environments.

  • Solid experience supporting site operations and assembly-related activities.

  • Good knowledge of HSE management systems, auditing practices, and risk management methodologies.

  • Experience conducting audits, investigations, and root cause analyses.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable improvements.

  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

  • Fluency in English; additional languages are considered an advantage.

  • Willingness to travel frequently on a global scale(30-40%)

The minimum salary for this position in the location specified is as follows:​

Italy: starting from 62,200 gross annual salary

Applicable CBA: Metalmeccanico

The final offer will be based on candidate location, skills and qualifications, experience, and aligned with internal pay structures.​
