SAP BTP Developer or Specialist

The opportunity:

Design, development, and deployment of secure, intelligent applications on SAP Business Technology Platform in alignment with SAP’s Clean Core principles. Deliver upgrade-safe, side-by-side extensions that keep the S/4HANA core standard by using released APIs and event-driven integration. Lead the transformation from traditional customizations to side-by-side extensions, leveraging SAP Build, SAP AI Core, AI Business Services, and Build Process Automation to deliver context-aware, automated business solutions that enhance operational efficiency.

How you’ll make an impact:

• Design and build robust side-by-side extensions on SAP BTP using the Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) with Node.js / Java.
• Develop intuitive user interfaces using Fiori Elements and SAP Build Apps to ensure seamless and consistent user experience across all devices.
• Design, develop, and deploy complex business process automations and flexible workflows using SAP Build Process Automation.

• Integrate intelligent features using prebuilt SAP AI Business Services and generative AI models via SAP AI Core.

• Collaborate closely with functional consultants and business process owners to promote and enforce Clean Core principles across all projects, especially when designing new enhancements. For example, ensure all integrations with S/4HANA exclusively use released, stable public APIs and events.

• Guide the team in selecting the right extension methodology (e.g., key user extensibility, on-stack developer extensibility, side-by-side extensions) for different use cases.
• Perform peer reviews of BTP application code, workflows, and integration artifacts submitted by colleagues and partners, ensuring that review and rework are completed according to Hitachi Energy development, quality, performance, and security standards (and likewise participate in peer review of code written by self)
• Review and prepare technical documents and specifications to support the design and development of solutions

• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment of SAP BTP applications and process automation solutions.

• Explore and pilot new technologies within the BTP ecosystem, such as SAP Build for low-code/no-code development, AI Business Services, Build Process automation and Integration suite.
• Build and implement technical Proof of Concepts (PoC) to validate emerging BTP services and architectural approaches for complex business requirements.
• Keep up to date with the latest SAP BTP services, programming models (CAP/RAP), and SAP's evolving Clean Core strategy. Share knowledge and recommended practices for BTP development and Clean Core architecture with other stakeholders.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

 Your background:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering. A master's degree in related discipline or equivalent work experience is preferred
• 6 to 7 years of hands-on experience developing applications on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP)
• Proven expertise with the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAPM) using Node.js or Java
• Skilled in front-end development with Fiori Elements and Business Application Studio
• Experience in deploying, managing, and troubleshooting applications within the SAP BTP runtime environment (Cloud Foundry)
• Practical experience in implementing CI/CD pipelines for BTP using tools like SAP Cloud Transport Management and GitHub.
• Experience in ABAP on HANA (Code push-down techniques using CDS views and AMDP), REST APIs, OData services and practical use of Clean Core principles for S/4HANA.
• Knowledge of SAP AI Core and SAP AI Launchpad, demonstrating the ability to integrate AI/ML capabilities into business applications
• Flexible in contributing either as a team member or as an individual contributor based on project or organization priorities
• Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
