Overview
Distribution system operators need protection and control devices that are reliable, secure, compatible, and easy to integrate with existing devices. But replacing your installed base was complicated and time-intensive—until now.
Our protection relays use a stable yet innovative platform with 20 years of successful experience. In one IED, you gain protection, control, measurement, and supervision functions.
The PS640 series supports multiple communication protocols including IEC 61850 Edition 2.0 and Modbus. Additionally, the PS640 series IEC 61850 standard facilitates horizontal communication (GOOSE) between devices.
Ethernet redundancy with the PS640 series can be achieved via the Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) or the Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) supported by switches managing a self-healing ring network.
The PSM640 motor protection, control, measurement and supervision relay has a 1A/5A input current rating that is settable. The PSM640 is ideal for main and backup protection functions for medium-sized and large asynchronous and synchronous motors.
PSM640 supports Ethernet-based SNTP and dedicated IRIG-B time synchronization.
PSM640 supports a maximum of four setting groups, whose values can be modified from the local human-machine interface (LHMI) or the PCM600.configuration tool.
Fully interoperable with Hitachi Energy’s tools suite, the PS640 series can be used in isolated, resistance-grounded, compensated grounded, and solidly grounded networks. With our PS640 series you can rely on high cybersecurity standards, as well as our long legacy in power systems, industry standards, and customer support.
No more complex configuration
This preconfigured device is easy to learn and use, providing a simple hardware architecture for your team to commission and maintain. Less training and engineering are needed, which saves you time and resources while improving safety.

The PS640 PCM600 connectivity package provides simple and easy interface: It fully integrates PCM600 without requiring any additional tools. In fact, PSM640 is delivered as a preconfigured device, which will reduce device configuration and set-up time.
