Venu Nuguri

Managing Director and CEO, India and South Asia, and Member of Global Executive Team, Hitachi Energy; Managing Director of Hitachi India

Venu has been leading Hitachi Energy in India since its formation in 2019, overseeing its listing on both Indian stock exchanges. Under his leadership, the team has executed several nation-building projects that make India’s energy system more sustainable, flexible and secure.

In June 2025, he was appointed as MD of Hitachi India, in addition to his role as MD and CEO, India and South Asia, Hitachi Energy. As the MD of Hitachi India, he is focusing on expanding Hitachi’s legacy in India in line with Hitachi Group’s new management plan-Inspire 2027.

ESG being central to his management modus operandi, Venu has demonstrated leadership in turbulent markets by investing in the future initiating projects in smart mobility with industry and academia and tying up with leading institutes to ready future talent for a fast-evolving energy landscape. Social projects under his watch have extended to afforestation, healthcare and providing 360-degree support to several hundred women in engineering.

As the head of Region South Asia for Hitachi Energy since 2016, Venu is leading ~11,000 passionate professionals to provide advanced technologies to realize sustainable power grid infrastructure and smart cities. With intelligent solutions that help energy-intensive sectors such as mining and cement embrace renewables, he has been instrumental in providing industries from India to New Zealand with alternatives that offer social, economic and environmental value.

A member of the Global Executive Team, Venu is shaping the way Hitachi Energy remains true to its purpose of advancing a sustainable energy future for all. Leveraging his experience and network to collaborate with customers across the lifecycle of the electricity backbone, he is committed to accelerating progress towards a carbon-neutral energy future.

In a career spanning over three decades, Venu has held diverse business and sales responsibilities. He harnessed this expertise for effective turnaround management of the Power Systems business of ABB putting it on the growth mode it benefits from even today. Today, he brings such foresight to his additional roles as Chairman of Hitachi Energy Technology Services Pvt Ltd and as Board Member and Chairman of Hitachi Energy operations in Australia, Indonesia and Singapore.

Through prestigious and high-impact forums organized by G20 Summit, Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, and so on, he is advancing the agenda on energy innovation and grid modernization to market development to support clean energy and power-for-all.

He is the voice of the energy industry, executing leadership roles in industry bodies like the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and committing to thought leadership across Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and in forums such as the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and Mission Innovation forums, India Energy Week, Association of the Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and Western Pacific (AESIEAP).

He is the recipient of several felicitations and awards in recognition of his contribution towards nation-building. This includes the CEO of the Year award by The Machinist in 2024, CEO of the Year award by India Achiever Forum in 2022 and the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2022 from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal. He has been the Chairman for CII Karnataka State Council for 2024-25 and also led the Energy & Infrastructure panel in the state before. At present, he is Chairman of the Task Force on Energy Transition at CII Southern Region.

An Electrical Engineering from the NIT Warangal, recieved the Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) from the NIT Warangal. He has also been accredited by Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Indian School of Business-Hyderabad, and International Institute of Management Development-Switzerland.
