Hitachi Energy in the UK
In the UK & Ireland, Hitachi Energy plays a key role in the country’s energy transition integrating renewable power into the grid and supporting ambitious energy targets for 2030 and 2050.
Building on its long and rich history, the company, together with customers, partners and academia, continues to be at the forefront of technologies used to integrate renewable energy into the world’s electricity grid and for the electrification of the transportation and industrial sectors both locally and globally.
Pioneering mission-critical technologies like high-voltage, transformers, automation, and power electronics, we are addressing the most urgent energy challenge of our time –balancing soaring electricity demand, while decarbonizing the power system.
Hitachi Energy employs 800 people across the UK focused on delivering critical energy infrastructure projects. Working with our customers and partners we play a pivotal role in supporting the UK’s energy transition — providing grid technologies, high-voltage systems, transformers, automation, and digital services to enable net-zero targets.
Hitachi Energy’s footprint is expanding, with offices and operational hubs strategically located across England and Scotland. The company plans to grow its UK workforce to over 1,000 employees by 2027.

- A new £18 million Operational Campus is under construction at the Beacon Development Zone in Stafford, which will replace the Stone site by 2026.
- The new site aims to retain existing staff and support the company’s long-term UK growth in transmission and energy solutions, preserving its commitment to its Staffordshire legacy.
Glasgow – Engineering Hub
(West of Scotland)
In September 2025, we announced the launch of a new Engineering Centre of Excellence in Glasgow, set to open in early 2026.
- Backed by a £1.7 million grant from Scottish Enterprise, this hub will host around 90 skilled roles, including engineers, designers, and project specialists.
- It will focus on supporting UK grid modernisation and will integrate with the company’s global engineering network.
- The Glasgow hub underlines Scotland’s key role in the UK’s net-zero journey — and in Hitachi Energy’s future growth.
