FAQs
PQactiF is a user-friendly, highly efficient, and compact modular active harmonic filter specifically designed for applications in low voltage networks.
Harmonics are distortions in the power supply that can cause various negative effects including overheating, malfunctioning of breakers and process equipment, excessive electrical stress, and radio interference. These problems can amongst other things lead to unplanned interruptions of industrial and commercial operations, premature equipment failures, erratic backup generator behavior, overheating of transformers and cables, disruptions in communications and more. If excessive harmonics get into the feeding grid, penalties from utility for non-compliance with grid code, or refusal of connection of plants may occur. Implementing harmonic filtering is essential to mitigate these issues.
Conventionally, a harmonic filter uses “passive” electrical components such as capacitors, reactors, and/or resistors. In contrast, an “active" filter uses semiconductor switching components (e.g. IGBTs) that “actively” regulate current in the circuit to cancel out harmonics and perform other compensation tasks. Our active harmonic filters, compared to their passive counterparts, are compact and precise, adapting continuously to changing load patterns and network characteristics, and cannot be overloaded.
PQactiF modular power quality solutions offer installation flexibility. There is no need to replace them when the power quality demand increases with the addition of new loads in the network; all that is needed is the addition of more modules to the existing active filter solution. Because of their design, it is easy to install PQactiF modular solutions in different configurations. Examples include installation as a module in a pre-existing panel (e.g., by an OEM), wall-mounted solutions, or as a standalone cabinet.
PQactiF offers installation flexibility, due to its availability in three different configurations. This advantage is particularly significant for installations in space-constrained environments such as buildings, data centers, or in retrofit applications. Due to its modular design, it is very easy to install, operate, and expand the PQactiF solution. Its robust control software, incorporating decades of know-how on active harmonic filtering technology, allows it to deliver multiple power quality features, like precise harmonic filtering, inductive and capacitive power factor correction in a wide range, and different modes of load balancing. Additionally, its user-friendly interface facilitates easy monitoring and control of PQactiF.
