Like a Static Var Compensator (SVC), the SVC Light® STATCOM instantly and continuously provides variable reactive power in response to voltage transients, ensuring voltage stability of the grid. STATCOM operates according to voltage source principles, combining unique switching of high-power semiconductors like IGBTs (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors) and IGCTs (Integrated Gate Commutated Thyristors). The use of these powerful components means the SVC Light® STATCOM’s footprint can be extremely small.
Installing SVC Light® STATCOM at one or more strategic points in a grid increases the power transfer capability of the grid and supports in maintaining a smooth voltage profile under different network conditions.
