Meet our people: Katarzyna Dam

Meet Our People | 02.11.2023 | 2 min read

Seeing how your work is having a real impact gives me great satisfaction and being part of Hitachi Energy IT provides various opportunities to step out of my comfort zone.

My name is Katarzyna Dam, and I am based in Krakow. I am the IT Service Manager responsible for the Quality Inspection Digitalization area in IT Manufacturing. I have been with Hitachi Energy since the beginning, with six years in total in the Power Grids sector. I started as an intern, and one of my latest accomplishments was to become certified as a Black Belt.

Lean methodologies are in the IT Manufacturing DNA, and I use them daily, so taking the next step in Lean Six Sigma was only natural for me. My final project for the Black Belt certification was minimizing the lead time of the quality inspection process related to the tank and leak check area. By decreasing manual steps and introducing digitalization and IT tool support, we managed a 66% improvement score, which was an excellent result. Seeing how your work is having a real impact gives me great satisfaction. We also get to improve the environment! One of the examples is the paperless production we are implementing.

Thinking about the international aspect – not only do we work with various stakeholders from different factories across the globe, but also, as part of my role, I got to travel a lot, helping colleagues on-site with training, process, and tool improvements. I often visit our factories in Poland. But not only! I have already worked in our facilities in Korea, India, and Brazil, with more to come.

Being part of Hitachi Energy IT provides various opportunities to step out of my comfort zone. Working in a global company like Hitachi Energy makes things different. Becoming a manager for an international team quite early on helped me grow immensely. I can always count on my manager and peers – they support me, give me honest feedback, and inspire me. We have the right tools to track, compare across sites, and analyze data in real-time. But it's not just tools. It’s mainly about the people – with my team, colleagues in the factories, and various stakeholders across the company, we accomplish great things together.
