Transformers for Utilities

Utilities face growing demands for reliability, resilience, and sustainability across the power grid. At Hitachi Energy, we partner with utilities to deliver advanced transformer solutions that enable efficient power transmission and distribution—from generation to consumption. Our portfolio supports grid modernization, renewable integration, and system stability across all voltage levels. With a legacy of innovation and a commitment to energy transition, we empower utilities to build stronger, smarter, and more sustainable electric networks.

Energy Generation

Reliable and efficient energy generation is the foundation of a stable power system. As utilities integrate a growing mix of conventional and renewable sources—such as thermal, hydro, wind, and solar—transformers play a critical role in stepping up voltage for transmission and ensuring consistent power quality.

Hitachi Energy delivers advanced transformer solutions designed to operate seamlessly across diverse generation environments, helping utilities connect assets to the grid, optimize performance, and support a sustainable energy future.

Energy Transmission
Moving electricity over long distances requires a resilient and efficient transmission network. Transformers are central to this process, enabling high-voltage power flow, minimizing losses, and maintaining system stability. Hitachi Energy offers a broad range of transmission transformers, including ultra-high-voltage solutions up to 765 kV, engineered to meet the evolving demands of modern power systems. With our expertise and technologies, utilities can strengthen grid reliability, enable cross-border interconnections, and accelerate the integration of renewable energy at scale.
Energy Distribution

The function of the distribution transformer is to step down the voltage from a medium voltage level (MV) to a safe low voltage level (LV) suitable for use in domestic and industrial applications.

Such transformers are typically categorized as liquid-filled or dry-type distribution transformers. They vary in size and complexity, ranging from relatively small single-phase transformers, which are mounted on poles in rural locations, up to larger three-phase transformers, which can have many additional complex features, such as forced cooling capability for enhanced power rating or seismic withstand requirements, etc.

The distribution transformers' applications are varied, ranging from traditional utility distribution installations to transformers for railway electrification requirements, step-up transformers for renewable applications such as wind and solar, and many more.

Hitachi Energy has a worldwide footprint of distribution transformer manufacturing facilities, which gives us unparalleled global coverage and knowledge of local specifications and regulations. This makes Hitachi Energy the ideal partner, whether the requirements are local or global.
